Kaikeyi hides her pain and demands boons
Thinking her well-disposed, the king speaks sweetly, thrilled with love: your wish is fulfilled, dear one; every house is celebrating. Tomorrow I make Rama yuvaraja; prepare the festive things. Her hard heart cracks like a ripe boil touched. Yet she hides the pain with a smile, as a thief's wife never weeps openly. The king sees no deceit, for a master of crooked minds has taught her; skilled as he is in statecraft, a woman's ways are a sea too deep for him. Feigning more love, smiling into his face, she says: you keep saying ask, ask, beloved, but you never give. You promised two boons, and I doubt I shall get even those.
