Hearing that the guru has come, Rama leaves Shatrughna beside Sita and hurries out. Seeing Vasishtha, he and Lakshmana begin to prostrate, but the great sage runs and clasps them both to his heart. Guha, thrilled, calls out his own name and bows from far off. The rishi embraces Rama's friend by force, as if gathering up love spilled on the ground. The devas praise devotion to Raghupati, root of all good, and rain flowers. No one is lower than this man, they say, and who in the world is greater than Vasishtha? Yet the king of sages met him more gladly than Lakshmana. That is the open power of worshipping Sita's lord.
