What happens in this chapter

Beasts and birds of Rama's hill

The kingdom picture goes on. The many hermitages of sages in the forest are like towns, cities, villages and hamlets. Birds and beasts of every kind are its countless subjects. Rhinoceros, elephant, lion, tiger, boar, buffalo and bull, seeing such splendour one praises it; they leave enmity and graze together, like a fourfold army here and there. Waterfalls splash and rutting elephants trumpet like drums of many kinds. Chakravaka, chakora, chataka, parrot, cuckoo and swan call happily. Bees hum and peacocks dance, as if good rule spread joy on all sides. Creepers, trees and grass bear fruit and flower. Seeing the beauty of Rama's hill, Bharata's heart fills with love, like an ascetic who has reached the fruit of tapas and rests content from his vows.
