Sita's dawn dream and dust on the horizon
Slowed by love, the company covers only two kos by sunset and camps. At Chitrakoot, before dawn, Sita tells a dream: Bharata has come with all the people, burning with separation, all grieving, and her mothers-in-law looked changed. Rama, who frees others from grief, is grieved himself. Lakshmana says the dream bodes ill; someone will bring hard news. Rama bathes, worships Shiva and honours the sages. As they sit facing north, dust fills the sky and birds and deer flee. Rama wonders at the cause. Then Kols and Kiratas bring the full news, and hearing it Rama thrills, his lotus eyes brimming with tears of love.
