What happens in this chapter

Seeing you is the fruit of our tapas

You have made a peerless moon of fame, Bharadvaja says, in which love for Rama dwells like the deer in the moon. To grieve now is like fearing poverty after finding the philosopher's stone. The fair fruit of all our disciplines was the sight of Lakshmana, Rama and Sita. The fruit of that fruit is the sight of you; this is our good fortune and Prayag's. Blessed are you, Bharata; you have conquered the world with fame. Saying this, the sage is lost in love. The assembly rejoices, the gods rain flowers, and 'blessed, blessed' rings through Prayag's sky. Thrilling, with Rama and Sita in his heart and tears in his eyes, Bharata bows to the sages and speaks in a choked voice.
