What happens in this chapter

The forest folk offer their service

The Kiratas go on: blessed are the earth, woods, paths and hills where the Lord has stepped; blessed the birds and deer whose lives are fulfilled by seeing him; blessed they and their families. He has chosen his place well and will be comfortable in every season. They will serve him in every way, keeping off elephants, lions, snakes and tigers. They know every thicket, cave and hollow step by step; they will take him hunting and show him lakes and springs. Let him never hesitate to command them. The doha: the compassionate Lord, beyond the Veda's words and the munis' minds, listens to the Kiratas as a father to his child's prattle.
