Rama tells Shabari bhakti is the only kinship
Shabari stands with joined palms. How can I praise you? she says. I am of low birth and very dull of mind; women are lowest of the low, and among them I am the most foolish. Raghupati answers: listen, good woman, I recognise only one kinship, that of bhakti. Caste, lineage, family dharma, rank, wealth, strength, kin, virtue and cleverness, a man without bhakti shines in them like a cloud without water. Now I tell you the nine forms of devotion; listen carefully and keep them in your heart. The first is the company of saints. The second is love for the tellings of my katha. The third is service of the guru's lotus feet without pride. The fourth is singing my virtues without deceit.
