Rudhiraksha gem from the Narmada

Suta says that Agni took the form of the danava as he wished and cast it into the Narmada and some lower lands. There arises the rudhiraksha gem. It is speckled like the red indragopa insect and coloured like a parrot's beak, plump and even in size, found in many forms, and once taken out every kind of it is held of equal worth. The best has a centre pale as the moon and a very pure colour, its layer like the sapphire in weight and worth. Such a stone, says the text, brings lordship and many servants to its owner. When fully matured it takes on the colour of Indra's diamond. The chapter is three verses long and gives no price beyond these signs.
