Arghya to Agastya

Brahma tells of the vow of offering arghya to Agastya. It is kept when the sun is three days short of entering Kanya. The devotee fashions an image of Agastya from kasha flowers on a pot, fasts, and worships him with curd, unbroken rice, fruits and flowers. A vessel holding the seven grains, gold and silver, smeared with curd and sandal, is offered with the mantra beginning 'Agastyah khanamanah'. The prayer hails Agastya born of Agni and Vayu, son of Mitra and Varuna, born from a pot. Shudras and women may keep it with the same mantra. For the vow the devotee gives up one grain, fruit or taste, and gives a pot with gold and dakshina to a brahmin, and after a year gains all.
