01Vennaiyappar

The old name Nelvennai holds nel, paddy, and vennai, butter, and the Lord is also Vennaiyappar. In Tamil he is Porkudam Kodutha Nayanar, the Lord who gave a golden pot. The linga is swayambhu and sits under a canopy of rudraksha beads. The Devi’s name, Neelamalar Kanni, means she whose eyes are blue lotuses. The punnai is the sthala tree. Sambandar sang one padigam on the place, which is among the twenty-two Tevaram shrines of Nadu Nadu.
