01Patanjali’s second vision

Adishesha longed to see Shiva’s dance, and Bhagwan Vishnu told him to be born on earth as Patanjali and do tapas. Shiva granted him the dance at Chidambaram; Patanjali then came to Kanattumullur and prayed for it once more, and the Lord danced for him here too, taking the name Patanjaleeswarar. The small swayambhu linga is lit by the rising sun for three days in Chittirai. Patanjali stands with the four great Nayanmars opposite the Nataraja shrine, and the temple is sought for relief from naga dosha. It is also one of the Puliyurs of Maharshi Vyaghrapada, nearest to Omampuliyur. Sundarar’s padigam is in the seventh Tirumurai.
