Kadaimudi is the very end, and Kadaimudinathar, in Sanskrit Antha Samrakshaneswarar, is the Lord who guards a soul at its last moment. Brahma, the temple says, built a shrine here and dug the Brahma Theertham that lies opposite, bathing the Lord with its water. Shiva showed himself to him under a kiluvai tree in the prakaram, where the oldest image, Kiluvai Nathar, is still worshipped. Maharshi Kanva is remembered at Kanva Mahan Thurai, his bathing ghat on the Kaveri. The temple faces west, which is rare, and its swayambhu linga is a shodasha linga. The Navagrahas sit on an octagonal base. Unmarried girls tie a thread before Abhirami for a timely marriage. Sambandar’s padigam is in the Tevaram.
