01Hanuman’s linga

Kurangu is monkey and ka a grove, and the shrine belongs to Hanuman’s katha told at nearby Karuppariyalur. Seeking release from his fault at Rameswaram, Hanuman installed this linga and worshipped it, and offered his kundalams, his earrings, to the Lord, who is therefore Kundalakarneswarar. A painting over the plain entrance shows him at worship, a stone Hanuman with folded hands waits at the sanctum door, and he has his own shrine, with a homa on every new moon. Kurakkukka is one of the five ka shrines, with Tiruvanaikka, Tirukkodikka, Tirunellikka and Tirukolakka. Appar’s padigam on it is in the fifth Tirumurai.
