The first indentured labourers from Bharat landed at Port Louis from the Atlas. Over the next eight decades about 4,50,000 came through what is now the Aapravasi Ghat.

Police fire on kar sevaks in Ayodhya on 30 October and again on 2 November; the Kothari brothers of Calcutta are among those killed.
