After about eight months of siege Chittor falls. Amir Khusrau, in the Sultan’s camp, gives the date and says some 30,000 people were then killed; Rawal Ratan Singh falls, and Jayasi’s Padmavat (1540) keeps the memory of Rani Padmini’s jauhar.
