Vadda Ghallughara: the great Sikh massacre
Abdali surprises a Sikh column with its families near Kup, by Malerkotla, and many thousands are killed in a single day. In April he blows up the Harmandir Sahib; the Sikhs rebuild it and within two years take Sirhind and Lahore.
Vadda Ghallughara (the great holocaust)
On one February day in 1762 Ahmad Shah Abdali fell on the Sikh families moving south of the Sutlej, and the Khalsa fought a running battle all day to shield them. Sikh memory calls it the Vadda Ghallughara, the great holocaust.
