Vasishtha Maitravaruni gives six trishtubh verses to Soma Pavamana. The begetter of heaven and earth sets out like a chariot to win the prize, goes to Indra sharpening his weapons, and holds all goods in his two hands. Voices low towards the three-backed bull. Soma is praised as a hero with sharp weapons and a swift bow, unconquered in battle, the winner of riches. He is asked for wide pastures, freedom from fear, the waters, the dawns and the light. The fifth verse runs through the devas he gladdens: Varuna, Mitra, Indra, Vishnu, the Marut host. It closes with the Vasishtha refrain, protect us always with blessings.
