What happens in this chapter

Like Chariots and Racing Steeds

Kashyapa Asita or Devala sings of Pavamana Soma in gayatri, with a run of similes. The pressed Somas surge toward wealth like chariots and like coursers eager for fame. Driven on, they are held in the two hands like loads carried by workers. Like kings with praises they are anointed with milk, as a yajna is by its seven priests. Taken by Vivasvat, they bring forth the good fortune of Dawn, and the singers open the ancient doors of thought. The seven Hotars, kin to one another, sit together and fill the one place. Soma, the sun, sees with his eye the dear place of heaven hidden by the adhvaryus.
