The cow, mother of the Maruts

Bindu, or Putadaksha, Angirasa praises the Maruts. The cow, their mother, eager for glory, suckles the generous Maruts, yoked as bearers of chariots. In her lap all the gods keep their vows, so that Sun and Moon may be seen. This Soma is pressed; the Maruts drink of it, and the self-ruling Ashvins. Mitra, Aryaman and Varuna drink the purified Soma that stands in three seats. The rishi asks when he may choose the help of the great gods, and ends calling the Maruts of pure strength, who spread out the earthly spaces and propped apart heaven and earth, to drink this Soma.

94.1

गौर्ध॑यति म॒रुतां॑ श्रव॒स्युर्मा॒ता म॒घोना॑म् ।
यु॒क्ता वह्नी॒ रथा॑नाम्

gaurdhayati marutāṃ śravasyurmātā maghonām |
yuktā vahnī rathānām

यस्या॑ दे॒वा उ॒पस्थे॑ व्र॒ता विश्वे॑ धा॒रय॑न्ते ।
सूर्या॒मासा॑ दृ॒शे कम्

yasyā devā upasthe vratā viśve dhārayante |
sūryāmāsā dṛśe kam

तत्सु नो॒ विश्वे॑ अ॒र्य आ सदा॑ गृणन्ति का॒रव॑ः ।
म॒रुत॒ः सोम॑पीतये

tatsu no viśve arya ā sadā gṛṇanti kāravaḥ |
marutaḥ somapītaye

94.4

अस्ति॒ सोमो॑ अ॒यं सु॒तः पिब॑न्त्यस्य म॒रुत॑ः ।
उ॒त स्व॒राजो॑ अ॒श्विना॑

asti somo ayaṃ sutaḥ pibantyasya marutaḥ |
uta svarājo aśvinā
