Vishvasaman of the Atri family addresses himself: sing, as Atri sang, to Agni of purifying flame, the most delightful hotar among the people, worthy of praise at every yajna. Set down Jatavedas, the divine priest of the seasons, so that the yajna may go forward in order, most open to the devas. Mortals seeking help have thought on Agni, whose mind is wise, longing for his choice protection. The last mantra, in pankti, asks Agni to heed this word, and says the Atris make him grow with hymns, the strong-jawed lord of the house, and adorn him with songs.
