Gathi Kaushika's hymn to Agni in trishtubh, with one anushtubh verse to the Purishya fires. This is the Agni in whom Indra took the pressed Soma into his belly. Agni's splendour is in heaven and on earth, in the plants and in the waters; with it he spread the wide air, a bright flood that watches over men. He goes to the flood of heaven and calls the devas, and the waters above the sun and those below come to him. The Purishya fires, from the streams, are asked to enjoy the rite, and the hymn closes with the refrain for cattle and an heir.
