Agni Saucika, now chosen, speaks to the Vishvedevas in Trishtubh. Instruct me, devas, how I should think as hotar seated here; tell me your shares and the path by which I carry offerings. I have sat down as the best sacrificer, the Maruts urge me on, the Ashvins take the adhvaryu's work. The devas made me bearer of offerings though I had slipped away and wandered in hardship. Agni will arrange our sacrifice of five courses, three folds and seven threads. The last verse says three thousand three hundred and thirty-nine devas honoured Agni, sprinkled him with ghee, spread the barhis and seated him as hotar.
