Agni, firstborn of rita
This trishtubh hymn of Trita Aptya is full of riddles about Agni. He is one ocean, the support of riches, seeing out of our hearts. The wise guard the footprint of rita and keep the highest names hidden. Two mothers, one bound to rita and one full of power, measure out and raise the child, the navel of all that moves and stands. The seven bounds were cut by the kavis, and the troubled man may reach one of them. In the highest heaven, in Aditi's lap, at the birth of Daksha, are the unmanifest and the manifest. Agni is firstborn of rita, both bull and cow.
स॒मा॒नं नी॒ळं वृष॑णो॒ वसा॑ना॒ः सं ज॑ग्मिरे महि॒षा अर्व॑तीभिः ।
ऋ॒तस्य॑ प॒दं क॒वयो॒ नि पा॑न्ति॒ गुहा॒ नामा॑नि दधिरे॒ परा॑णि
