They yoke the ruddy one that moves around the still worlds, and the lights shine in heaven. Madhuchchhandas Vaishvamitra's gayatri sukta begins with the rising sun and Indra's bay horses. Indra makes light for what had no light and form for what had none, born with the dawns. The Maruts, after their own nature, took birth again and won a name worthy of worship. With them, the breakers of strongholds, Indra found the cows hidden in the cave. Indra and the Maruts appear together, fearless, joyful, of equal splendour. Whether from the sky, the earth or the wide air, the singers ask Indra to come and give.
