What happens in this chapter The sun, self of all that moves Citraṃ devānām ud agād anīkam: the bright face of the gods has risen, the eye of Mitra, Varuna and Agni. Kutsa Angirasa's trishtubh sukta to Surya holds the line sūrya ātmā jagatas tasthuṣaś ca, the sun is the self of all that moves and all that stands, recited in sandhya worship. Surya follows shining Ushas as a young man follows a maiden. His bay mares climb the back of heaven and circle sky and earth in a day. When he unyokes them, night spreads her garment over all. The rishi asks the gods, at sunrise, to free us from distress and blame.
