The Vaishvadeva offering in the fire
Brahma describes the Vaishvadeva, the daily offering of cooked food in the household fire. The fire is kindled and water sprinkled around it. The flesh-eating fire is sent away to Yama's realm with a Vedic verse, and the other Jataveda is asked to stay and carry the offerings to the devas. Vaishvanara is invoked and awakened. Then come the oblations with svaha, one by one: to Prajapati, Soma, Brihaspati, Agni and Soma, Indra and Agni, heaven and earth, the Vishvedevas, Brahma, the waters, the herbs, Indra and his attendants, Yama and his attendants, all beings that move by day, and the pitris of the earth. Last, bali is set out for the wandering beings, for the poor down to the chandala, and for the crows.
