Prajnanam Brahma: consciousness is Brahman
Who is this Self we worship? Which one is the Self? Is it that by which one sees, hears, smells, speaks and tells sweet from bitter? The adhyaya lists the mind and heart and all their workings: perception, understanding, wisdom, insight, memory, resolve, will, purpose, desire and the rest. All these are names of consciousness. This consciousness is Brahma, Indra and Prajapati, all the devas, the five great elements, every creature born of egg, womb, sweat or sprout, horses, cattle, men, elephants, whatever breathes, moves, flies or stands still. All is led by consciousness and rests in it. The world is guided by consciousness; consciousness is Brahman. With this conscious Self, the knower rose from this world, gained all desires in the world above and became immortal.
Who is this Self that we worship? Which one is the Self? Is it that by which one sees, by which one hears, by which one smells scents, by which one utters speech, by which one knows the sweet and the not sweet?
It is this heart and this mind. Perception, command, discernment, knowledge, wisdom, insight, steadiness, thought, reflection, drive, memory, resolve, purpose, life, desire and will: all these are names of prajnana, consciousness.

This is Brahma, this is Indra, this is Prajapati, these are all the devas; these five great elements, earth, air, space, water and light; all small creatures and the seeds of others; the egg-born, womb-born, sweat-born and sprout-born; horses, cattle, men, elephants; whatever breathes, moves, flies or stands still. All this is guided by consciousness and rests in consciousness. The world has consciousness as its eye; consciousness is its support. Prajnanam Brahma: consciousness is Brahman.
