1. Krishna, free of thirst for the objects of the senses, the mighty Lord of the world, conqueror of the hosts of asuras, ever a child.
2. Who dances here again and again, without end; boundlessly kind to those who serve him; the whole truth; ever a child.
3. The steadfast one; the further shore of the ocean of samsara; the substance of all the Vedas; the saviour of all yogis; ever a child.
4. Who plays in the waves of a Ganga of music and poetry full of shringara rasa; ever a child.
5. A child together with Balarama, delight of the world, who has every wish fulfilled.
6. Damodara, mine of all that is desired, dark as a rain cloud, terrible to asuras, ever a child.
7. Who drinks the nectar of Radha’s red lips; whose form is sat-chit-ananda; king of the three worlds; ever a child.
8. The true wealth, who loosens every misfortune; the highest goal of life for Shri Narayana Tirtha; ever a child.

About this bhajan

Narayana Tirtha was an Andhra sannyasi of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries who settled on the Kaveri near Thanjavur, at Varahur and Tirupoonthuruthi, where his samadhi stands. His Krishna Leela Tarangini retells the tenth skandha of the Bhagavata in Sanskrit songs called tarangams, waves, ending with Rukmini’s wedding. The tarangams are sung in the South Indian bhajana sampradaya and danced in Bhagavata Mela and Kuchipudi. In this one a gopi turns to her friend and asks her only to think of the child, and every verse returns to ‘sada balam’, ever a child, however vast the titles before it.
