What happens in this chapter

Lord of the tawny drops, shine for us

Parvata and Narada of the Kanva line give six ushnik verses to Soma Pavamana, close in wording to the sukta before. Friends, sing to him as he is purified for joy, sweeten him with offerings and praises as one does a child. Urged on, the drop is anointed with his mothers like a calf, adorned by the thoughts. He brings skill and strength, and pressed for the devas he is sweetest. They ask him to flow rich in cows and horses; we have set his pure colour upon the milk. Lord of the tawny drops, be a friend to us for brightness, and overpower the godless devourer and the double-dealer.
