What happens in this chapter

Varuna's ship and the Ashvins' Soma

Ascribed to Nabhaka Kanva or Archananas Atreya. The first three verses, in trishtubh, praise Varuna the all-knowing asura, who propped up the sky, measured the breadth of the earth and sits as sovereign over all worlds; all these are his vratas. The singer bows to the wise guardian of amrita and asks for threefold shelter, and for sharpened will and skill, so that we may climb aboard the good ship and cross over every hardship. The last three verses, in anushtubh, call the Nasatyas to drink Soma as Atri once called them, closing with the refrain 'may all those others perish'.
