Three gayatri verses, by Maharshi Vasishtha seeking rain, or by Kumara son of Agni. Sing to Parjanya, son of heaven, who pours down bounty; may he seek pasture for us. It is Parjanya who makes the seed grow in the plants, in cows, in mares and in women. Offer into his mouth the sweetest oblation, and may he give us lasting refreshment. These short verses are still sung when rain is sought for the fields.
