What happens in this chapter
The purodasha at three pressings
A brief hymn of Vishvamitra to Agni in mixed metres, offering the purodasha, the sacrificial rice cake, through the day of the Soma rite. At the morning pressing Agni is asked to enjoy the cake; it has been baked and made ready for him. At the midday pressing he is asked to take it, for the wise do not diminish his share at the rites. At the third pressing, son of strength, he is to delight in the cake and set the rite, rich in treasure, among the immortals. The last verse offers the cake kept from the day before.
पु॒रो॒ळा अ॑ग्ने पच॒तस्तुभ्यं॑ वा घा॒ परि॑ष्कृतः ।
तं जु॑षस्व यविष्ठ्य
puroḻā agne pacatastubhyaṃ vā ghā pariṣkṛtaḥ |
taṃ juṣasva yaviṣṭhya
अग्ने॑ वी॒हि पु॑रो॒ळाश॒माहु॑तं ति॒रोअ॑ह्न्यम् ।
सह॑सः सू॒नुर॑स्यध्व॒रे हि॒तः
agne vīhi puroḻāśamāhutaṃ tiroahnyam |
sahasaḥ sūnurasyadhvare hitaḥ
माध्यं॑दिने॒ सव॑ने जातवेदः पुरो॒ळाश॑मि॒ह क॑वे जुषस्व ।
अग्ने॑ य॒ह्वस्य॒ तव॑ भाग॒धेयं॒ न प्र मि॑नन्ति वि॒दथे॑षु॒ धीरा॑ः

agne yahvasya tava bhāgadheyaṃ na pra minanti vidatheṣu dhīrāḥ
अग्ने॑ तृ॒तीये॒ सव॑ने॒ हि कानि॑षः पुरो॒ळाशं॑ सहसः सून॒वाहु॑तम् ।
अथा॑ दे॒वेष्व॑ध्व॒रं वि॑प॒न्यया॒ धा रत्न॑वन्तम॒मृते॑षु॒ जागृ॑विम्
agne tṛtīye savane hi kāniṣaḥ puroḻāśaṃ sahasaḥ sūnavāhutam |
athā deveṣvadhvaraṃ vipanyayā dhā ratnavantamamṛteṣu jāgṛvim
