About this bhajan

On the last day of the war in Lanka, with Rama tired and Ravana facing him again, Maharshi Agastya came down among the watching devas and taught Rama this hymn to the Sun. Valmiki gives it in the Yuddha Kanda in thirty-one verses, and it is still recited at sunrise, facing east, often three times as Agastya told Rama to. Sarga numbering differs between editions: valmikiramayan.net and the Sanskrit Wikisource text place it in sarga 105, while some other editions, and many stotra books following them, cite it as sarga 107. The text here follows the form most widely recited; the sarga text on Wikisource differs in a few words.
